Why SGBS - The St. Gallen Business School

The future will require increasingly highly qualified leaders who are able to achieve excellence in their specialist and functional areas, while also having an understanding of holistic corporate management. The knowledge of managers will become the sole source of success. Promoting this knowledge in every respect and improving the qualifications of managers must therefore be one of the most important goals of corporate management. The St. Gallen Business School wants to make its contribution to this.

The St. Gallen Business School is one of the largest and most renowned management seminar providers in the German-speaking world. As a privately organized, independent and neutral institution, we train and educate leaders from business and administration every year.

What our highly qualified speakers, who work as professors and lecturers, consultants or management trainers, have in common is that they have been cultivating and developing their specialist field for a long time.

We base our work on system-oriented management theory and the St. Gallen management concept, as developed by our former academic director and advisory board chairman, Prof. Dr. Dres. hc Knut Bleicher. This is the basis and starting point for all our seminars, events and consulting activities. All teaching content strictly follows its structure. It enables us to divide the diversity of business knowledge into modular units without losing the overall picture. This ensures that we are always aware of the overall context. This allows us to separate the essential from the inessential. The St. Gallen Business School is part of the St.Gallen Group of Business Schools.

SGBS: How holistic management is taught

The particular ambition of the St. Gallen seminar providers and in particular the St. Gallen Business School is to convey the latest findings from research and teaching to the top-class participants in a very practical and therefore easy-to-use, implementable form. This is done in the context of seminars through guided teaching discussions, exchange of experiences, training based on real situations and learning concrete management tools and methods. The conscious avoidance of theoretical, student-based training concepts enables a high implementation effect. The lecturers at the St. Gallen Business School are characterized by high practical competence, which is secured by at least one solid foothold as an entrepreneur, executive, “temporary manager” or management consultant, as well as a high level of didactic competence. In this regard, all personalities do not see themselves as “stars” or “gurus”, but rather as experts in their field in the spirit of “marketing on your own behalf is out – result-oriented work in the background is in” to support the needs of the participants. In addition to the seminar activities in open, advertised seminars or customized in-house seminars, this expertise is also cultivated and used in the service of customers as part of the consulting activities organized by the St. Gallen Business School. Due to the close link between seminar activities, consulting and their own business projects, all lecturers at the St. Gallen Business School see themselves as mediators between business research and business practice.

Management seminars

The seminars at the St. Gallen Business School provide all the knowledge and training modules relevant for a holistic view of the company. The division into general management seminars (for executives and juniors) and specialist seminars enables a needs-oriented selection to satisfy customer requirements to the maximum. For example, general management seminars for executives are usually aimed at upper and top managers who have already demonstrated their willingness and ability to perform and who want to further qualify themselves and update their know-how. Topics from the four core management areas of strategy/organization, marketing/sales, finance/controlling and leadership/personal skills are dealt with in an integrated manner and explored in more depth. The same topics are worked on in general management seminars for high potentials, but here they are aimed at a target group of future managers and emerging leaders in middle management or specialists without general management knowledge. In contrast to these broad-based general management seminars, the specialist seminars offer in-depth specialist knowledge in the areas of strategic management, marketing, sales, finance, controlling, leadership behavior, rhetoric, etc. The option of choosing between several dates and locations also means that you can choose the seminar that best fits your own time budget. The locations – mostly in Switzerland, Germany or Austria or in selected international locations such as London, Boston, Shanghai – are characterized by a special atmosphere in which all participants can concentrate on the seminar content, discussions with other participants and thus intensive practical transfer thanks to nature and hospitality.

Strong in internationalization, growth, value creation

Originally founded in Boston (Massachusetts, USA), Boston Business School has been part of St. Gallen Business School since 2021. It is responsible for our English-language seminars and programs and brings in-depth know-how in the areas of internationalization, profitable growth and sustainable value creation.

Certificate courses and MBA courses

The St. Gallen Business School is breaking new ground with its “SGBS Certified Expert St. Gallen” degree programs. These are designed as part-time St. Gallen practical studies and are deliberately different from the academic title with an accredited degree. Anyone who wants to acquire an SGBS Certified Expert degree at the St. Gallen Business School only wants to learn what is really useful. They want to develop precisely those competencies and skills that will really be needed for professional challenges in the coming years. They don’t want a title, but rather a practice-based acquisition of important skills.

St.Gallen Management Schools – Learn the profession of management

Management as a profession has not (yet) received sufficient professional training. It is left to time, chance and trial and error to determine whether something works or not: a very unsatisfactory situation considering the importance of the profession.

We at St. Gallen Business School have been in close contact with a large number of people and organizations for decades. We examine what it takes to practice this profession in a values-based and sustainably successful manner. We see the need to understand management as a profession and to learn this profession in the best possible way, with a clear focus on practice and application.

The format is called: St. Gallen Management Schools. We answer the question posed above, “Where can you learn management?” with a unique offer: a mixture of the best management seminars, in-depth workshops, accompanying coaching. With a clear focus on the job you already have or would like to do. With training and further education that is really useful.

With kind regards,
Dr. Günther Pipp
Chairman of St. Gallen Business School and
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Gallen Group of Business Schools
